Your site is pretty interesting to me and your topics are very relevant. I was browsing around and came across something you might find interesting. I was guilty of 3 of them with my sites. "99% of blog owners are committing these five errors". http://tinyurl.com/6o9euxt You will be suprised how simple they are to fix.

I just had a G Tech G Drive Q 500 GB external hard drive completely fail almost to the day that the 2-year warranty expired. Replacing is not the issue, but I lost over 100 GB of data. I have a 1TB G Drive that I am holding my breath over. Are these drives reliable now?

Been looking at this drive for a couple days now, been having issues with my new Segate 2TB external while djin with Serato. Heard good things about the G-Drives and being able to handle anything. Do you think it can handle a amount of video and mp3s running constantly.

Great review, but i need an external hard drive that i can plug into my mac and pc without the need to reformat. my firelite did that perfectly, no formatting or anything, just plug into mac or pc and it was ready to work but it just stopped working recently. Will the G-drive work like that or is it a read and modify for one and read only for the other? please email marcusd18@yahoo.com

This is how I view this, my backup drive should be dependable enough that in case my primary drive fails that the backup drive should allow me to recover them. However, I don't expect to go the opposite. Otherwise, its a waste of money and time. It's scarry to think that my data will be lost somehow and in order for me to protect them that I have to purchase a backup for my backup so that I can backup my primary data....hmmm?

I am debating if I should buy this G-Tech 2T ext drive or not, now that I see more issue with mounting it. On one of the forums the guy from G-tech mentioned about gen4 so I am curious if the batch that you purchased was prior to gen4 or not?

We have purchased nearly 100 G-Drives (1 TB) and G-Safes over the last 2 years. The drives for the most part have been dependable, reliable and cost effective for our facility. But the failure rate on the older drives has been alarming. Even the newer versions are not 100% trustworthy. We are considering switching to another brand. When they fail, they FAIL. Contents permanently lost. 1 TB of media suddenly disappearing can be traumatic loss. G-Tech has had issues in repairing and returning within a reasonable time. A warranty is useless to a client whose media is gone. We have arranged backup systems so we are more secure. But the issues G-Tech has faced with their drives is and will continue to be a big concern for us and should be a warning for anyone considering a purchase. I hope that the issues of drive failures has been or will be eliminated by Hitachi and G-Tech. If the product is not dependable, it is useless. Pretty simple.

WD is and always has been a third-tier drive vendor. Most of their stuff goes into applications such as TiVo HDD-based video recorders, where high error rates and outright failure are of little consequence. Hitachi (formerly IBM) and Seagate are the better choices. (Opinion from the perspective of one who has spent a couple of decades working in the disk drive industry.)
