ZDnet are reporting that Microsoft could be throwing their hat into the tablet arena by building a direct competitor to the as yet unseen Apple Tablet.
Its likely the device may be made in association with several smaller companies to facilitate Microsoft moving away from the hardware industry. This could also signal only a few more updates to the Zune, before incorporating it as part of a smart phone. Its rumored this device wont be released until Apple release their own tablet, possibly a keep your cards to your chest maneuver.
ZDNet also have information regarding Microsoft’s iPhone competitor, which is code-named “pink”. It is said the device will not be manufactured by Microsoft, but it will run a version of Windows Mobile 7, as well as having ”premium mobile services” – most likely running on Verizon. Perhaps we could see a tie-in with the Zune store, sort of like what Apple did with the iPhone then the touch but in reverse. The device is rumored for release in late 2010, with its first showing at CES in January next year.
