Mogo Talk for iPhone 3G/S review

Using a headset with your iPhone is an absolute must, especially if you drive a lot or work with computers. Been able to chat on the phone whilst carrying on with your day is brilliant.

Using a headset quickly becomes very important. However, because a headset is traditionally a ‘loose’ item – i.e. it’s one of those things that gets dropped into your pocket or bag – they often get lost.

That has always put me off headsets personally. That, and they don’t really look good.

But that is not true! The Mogo Talk has just been released and it sets new standards in the iPhone headset arena. No longer is the headset just another gadget for you to lose! No longer is re-charging your headset painful. Finally, the headset you wear actually looks good!

Introducing the MogoTalk

Features

Fully integrated into your iPhone 3GS (or 3G)

Ultra slim, light, small and comfortable, MoGo Talk’s sophisticated and minimalist design enables the headset to easily fold flat and snap in and out of its MoGo Dock protective case—which fits seamlessly on the back of an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G.

High Fidelity Sound with SoundMonitor™ + SmartAudio™ Technology

The MoGo Talk headset delivers two-way crystal clear conversations leveraging powerful SmartAudio active noise compensation & echo cancellation technology that is perfectly complemented by the SoundMonitor™ balanced armature driver technology, previously reserved for in-ear monitors used by top musicians.

SoundShape™ for Superior Comfort + Fit

The Exclusive SoundShape™ eartip design naturally flex-forms and fits the contours of your ear. These eartips provide comfortable yet secure long-term wear along with more than 15dB of passive noise-cancellation to block ambient noise and supply rich bass response.

The Mogo Talk is nothing short of revolutionary. The Talk package is made up of a heavy duty, sturdy iPhone case, with a built in slot for the included headset. The mono headset sits neatly on the back of your iPhone wherever you go – meaning it’s always close to hand and you’ll never lose it. What a great idea!

The stylish looking headset.

Applying a little pressure to the left side of the headset releases the receiver from it’s holder. The headset itself folds flat for storage, but when in use the mic boom rotates away from the earpiece to direct itself towards your mouth. That means the headset looks sleek on the back of your iPhone and doesn’t stand proud of the case.

The Fold-out mic boom.

The MogoTalk case is made up of strong, durable plastic and fits very snugly around the iPhone. The 5mm thin headset is positioned on the rear of the case, in a slot that facilitates re-charging of the ear-piece in place. This is achieved via a simple pop-up mini-usb connector. Charging is no issue with this product, because you simply flip over the iPhone, and plug in the provided USB charging cable from your Mac.

The Mogo Talk has a cut-out for the camera.

The iPhone still requires charging as normal, as the all in one case is a separate element. However, this does mean that the Mogo isn’t piggybacking off your iPhones battery.

Ergonomics

When using the Mogo Talk, you can tell some serious planning and development has gone into the product. This is evident in the ergonomics in particular.

Mogo could have made a fairly low quality, uncomfortable case here, but they haven’t.

The Mogo Talk case is very comfortable in the hand.

Because the case has to house the 5mm thin headset, it must leave the contour of the iPhone’s rear case and thus alter the feeling in your hand. The case has a slightly more angular back than the iPhone alone – but this has been shaped in order to make it very comfortable. I prefer the feel of the iPhone with the Mogo Talk on because the arched back fits more firmly into one’s hand.

The headset is also extremely comfortable. Unlike other headsets, the Mogo Talk is shipped with several alternate ear-tips to suit varying ear shapes and sizes. The ear-tip simply slips into the ear canal, and is held firmly in place. The ear-tips are designed to block our ambient noise to give clear, crisp conversations.

The Mogo Talk in ear is very comfortable even for extended periods.

After wearing this headset for several hours, we found no discomfort or aching, unlike some in ear devices that can cause dull pain in the ear.

The headset doesn’t move or flap around once in place. You can shake your head vigorously and expect the headset to remain in place which is good as it means you won’t be constantly annoyed by the earpiece moving around.

Sound Test

Connecting the headset and MoGo Talk in use.

Pairing the iPhone and Mogo Talk was very simple. Following the instructions, we charged the headset, then held down it’s sole button for around 10 seconds. This triggers the LED situated at the tip of the headset to flash blue and red. This is the signal it is searching for devices to pair with. You then simply turn on your iPhones blue-tooth and search for devices. The iPhone will connect to the headset in a matter of seconds and your ready to start making and taking calls.

Once in place, the Mogo Talk provides excellent quality sound. Conversations were clear and understandable. The recipient of our test calls also confirmed the headset did not adversely effect sound quality and they could easily comprehend what we were saying as we tested the headset whilst moving around as well as driving.

The stylish headset.

As the headset is bluetooth powered, we decided to test the range on offer. We were able to walk around 30 feet away (through a wall) with no drop in quality of sound – both sent and received. That means you can walk and talk so to speak.

You should be set for around 4 hours talk time between charges, and 72 on standby. However, we charged our headset up over 96 hours ago and have yet to receive the low battery signal.

Style

The Chrome and brushed effect adds to the styling.

Many aftermarket accessories for the iPhone are poorly styled. Not the Mogo Talk however! The Headset features a a metallic brushed effect plate, with a further chrome plate on top. This looks very good. The protective case is finished in Gloss Black – and this looks great on a black or white iPhone!

Conclusion

We are very impressed with the Mogo Talk. It delivers on all levels and then some! The sound quality is crystal clear thanks to the noise cancellation and echo reduction. It’s incredibly comfortable and looks amazing. Plus, charging is super simple and the protective case not only provides protection for your phone as well as a neat store for the bluetooth headset. The Mogo Talk is a comprehensive and well thought out package. Not only do you get the required charging cable but the manufacturers have included a handy screen protector film and polishing cloth.

The Mogo Talk looks brilliant.

This is one complete package and the best iPhone headset we’ve tested. It looks the best, works the best and sets new standards in this arena.

If your looking for a headset then the Mogo Talk should be at the very top of your list. In fact, it should be the only product on that list. Highly recommended!

Junk! It works fine for a couple weeks and then it won’t charge. Forget about contacting support. they just ignore you. I’ve sent 4 e mails and made 3 phone calls and no response. This has been going on for weeks now. Read comments on other sites and they ‘re all the same, the wires break on the charger and no one can get a response from Newton. Don’t buy it!!!!

    “Don’t waste your money”

Pros: The concept is good, but not worth the price and value.

Cons: I have experienced problems with the Mogo Talk since I purchased it. It is made of very thin, inexpensive plastic with no durability. The case and the cable connection broke within the first two weeks.
Summary: This company’s customer service is horrible. Since January, I have tried to reach them via email and phone at the contact info listed on their website. After four months and numerous attempts, I gave up. I left multiple emails and voicemails only to be completely ignored.
