More oversea’s tablet visits

Apple are seemingly globe-trekking in their search for content providers for the new tablet. There were visits to U.S Publishers, then Australian media companies and now engineers from Apple are visiting China, quite a lot! Fresh reports suggest that Apple engineers are making frequent trips to China, possibly to FoxConn who are said to be producing 300,000 Tablet (or ’slate’) devices.

These recent trips seem to suggest that Apple are very much on track for launching the much-awaited hardware in Q1 of 2010. It’s been noted that several trips are scheduled over the holidays, making the early ‘10 release looking more likely by the day.

Apple executive, Phil Schiller, told the press that Apple’s line-up for Christmas was set, so the likelihood of seeing the tablet before then is zero to none. Apple trips to media companies has given rise to some sources stating they have ‘held’ working prototypes of the device. We’ve also  heard that R&D is in ‘late stages’. Apple are looking to re-invent traditional media, and partnering with as many mainstream content producers around the world is a sensible move to achieve such a ambitious goal.

Coinciding with the tablet launch, we could see a whole new element added to iTunes / App store. Imagine the App Store, but for books, newspapers and comics. This route may also be opened to the iPhone too. Sources have stated that Apple are enticing companies away from those such as Amazon, with more fair commission rates (30% on the App store for example, compared to Amazon’s 70%) making e-media a much more profitable and lucrative market.
