We already know how much we love Spotlight: just a simple search helps us find absolutely anything on our Mac. And now that we’ve discovered Tunesque, any kind of search is done with ease.

Tunesque is an awesome app for your Mac that helps you find apps, music, movies, and books on the iTunes store. Yes, we know we can do this already.. but we have to launch the Mac App Store app or iTunes – both of which can be a bit of a bugger.

Or maybe I’m just lazy.

But really, I don’t think so. In fact, Tunesque’s lightweight (811kb) design makes it (almost) an essential app for any Mac. Developed by AFKStudio, this instant search tool sits in your Mac’s menubar, waiting to meet your every app need.

Using Tunesque is super simple and quick. Simply click on the icon, and start to type your search query. After that, sit back and relax: Tunesque will do the rest.

No matter what you’re looking for (well, almost) Tunesque can find it. Music, apps, movies, and books… they’re all there. It lets you search all of the realms of iTunes, to get exactly what you’d like. Looking for a new eBooks? Use Tunesque. The latest Podcast? Use Tunesque. You get the idea.

We really like the filtering options; users can decide what kind of results it shows. The first version opened up each of your queries as an iTunes link, so each search will lead to your browser before you open iTunes right away. For some, this might be nice – you get a bit of a preview without opening your iTunes. For others, you might want to do away with that middle man.

You can also personalize the app: Tunesque has two color schemes available. These preferences can also be configured to display only specific parts of the app store.

But the newer version, 1.1, opens links directly in iTunes, making the search to download time shorter. It also supports expanding/collapsing the various result categories, adds a global shortcut key, and fixes numerous bugs and performance issues.

This new version was launched just last week. And best of all? It’s free.
