Foxnews has apparently received confirmation from within Apple that the rumored event at the YBCA in January will be happening. The source is said to be from within the Apple castle. Fox claim the date is likely to be the 26th of January, which matches previous rumors and reports. This event is said to be ‘big’ and will focus on the ‘mobility space’. This is obviously quite a broad term, as half of the Apple products are portable, but hints that it’s aimed at either the iPhone (which would be out of sync with an update) or of-course the iSlate.
Apple as usual is tighter than a Yorkshireman’s wallet, but things are slotting into place. Apple have been known before to milk the buzz around highly desired Apple goods. Think the iPhone. We have a good round-up of all the tablet specific stuff on one of our recent posts – the Apple iSlate rumors.
Interestingly, former Google China president Kai-Fu Lee apparently blogged about the iSlate. Lee is a former Apple board member – and oversaw production of the Newton. After Lee leaving, he was personally asked by Jobs to return to Apple, Lee later chose to reject Steve’s offer and work for Microsoft China. Lee confirmed all of ‘givens’ – 10.1″ multi-touch screen with an ‘awesome’ interface and looks like a giant iPhone.
As was pointed out by many bloggers, somebody with such a reputation of Lee wouldn’t be readily divulging secret Apple details. It’s not entirely clear how he would have come across these details, with some sources suggesting his company is loosely tied to FoxConn who are supposed to have the tablet build contract. Is Lee just trying to grab attention? Build some interest in one of his own projects? Then again the post could have been written by anybody.
Finally, on the iPhone front, we recently discovered that O2 UK were out of stock of black iPhone 16GB’s. Whether this means that Apple are planning an updated model, or that they were just all out of black when we ordered our new device who knows. Thought we might mention it with the outside possibility that Apple are working on a new iPhone.
